Alan Rafe, President of Berkley International Philippines, Inc., has announced the promotion of Maria Regina dela Vega-Cruz to the rank of Vice-President for Corporate Communications. Dela Vega-Cruz, who is also a TV host of a public service program on IBC-13, has been with Berkley for almost five years now and has been largely responsible for fostering a better understanding of the unique and non-traditional marketing operations of Berkley’s sole distributor, Family First, Inc. (FFI). Berkley’s flagship business in the country involves the sale of educational pre-need plans, a sector that the multinational company has consistently been a leading player in. With assets nearing P3 billion as of last audited financial statement on 31 December 2005, Berkley has a total of six branches providing work for an average of 600 employees monthly in FFI sales offices at SM malls in Metro Manila and Pampanga. Consistently placing among the Top 5 in terms of new business, Berkley has a client base of almost one hundred thousand planowners.
With her promotion, dela Vega-Cruz is counted upon to further strengthen Berkley’s strategic external and internal communications to complement and fit the pre-need giant’s expansion plans and excellent showing in the industry. Her major responsibilities include media relations, communications with planholders, employees and the public-at-large, corporate social responsibility and special events management. Dela Vega-Cruz finished BA Communication, cum laude, from UP Diliman and has built a career in both broadcasting and public relations. She has, at one time or another, served as a TV newscaster, news writer and program host while simultaneously acting as public relations officer of various private and government offices, including two former Senators of the Republic.
